In 1987, while flying a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird on a mission over the Soviet Union, a US Navy pilot is forced to eject from his plane to survive a mid-air collision with a MiG-29. In the Soviet wilderness, he meets and befriends an ex-KGB agent, now living as a carpenter, who agrees to help him escape enemy territory.
