College roommates Jack and Montgomery are having a bad time. Montgomery struggles to talk to his crush Ashley, while Jack is ostracized by the entire school for a football tradition gone wrong. Together, they are bullied by Logan and his crew. Among them is Lizzy, a former friend of Jack and Montgomery's, who used to play table top games with them. One evening, Jack and Montgomery discover a tin of drugs called M.I.N.T.S. which is supposed to give them a relaxing high. Unfortunately, they discover too late that the drugs cause them to hallucinate surreal and occasionally violent imagery and can only be satiated once they consume pizza. Having ordered some earlier, the two must venture down to the lobby and get it from the delivery robot Snackatron 3000, while avoiding the school's RA group lead by the domineering Blake.
Jack and Montgomery experience a wild vision of man named Juan who demands that they amuse a baby. Later, the two must get to the end of the hall without cursing or else their heads explode and the moment restarts. Montgomery uses this as an opportunity to talk to Ashley properly. Later, the run into Lizzy, who also consumed the drugs, and she joins them on their quest. Their next phase has them reliving their past moments in flashback, which they are also able to slightly interact with. They end up at a party held by the disgruntled footballers, where Montgomery spends some time with Ashley, learning that she is part of a freaky punk folk band. The phase has the group switching bodies with Jack and Lizzy switching. Jack gets to experiencing popularity firsthand, while Lizzy experiences Jack's torment, while also realizing that Logan only keeps Lizzy for her credit card.
Montgomery switches bodies with his pet butterfly Lysander and learns that Blake has collected the names of all the rulebreakers (with himself, Jack, and Lizzy included) and has been confiscating phones in an elaborate scheme to have all of them transferred to Gralk Hall, the worst dorm building held four hours off campus. Switching back to their original bodies, the group escapes as Blake breaks up the party. They soon run into Sidney, an incompetent RA member, who thinks they are RA members and kicks off the next phase wherein they are unable to lie. They escape Sidney when their cover is blown and make it to the pizza, though Lizzy leaves when Logan claims that he has pizza on the party bus (which Lizzy is supposedly paying for). Still under the effects of the phase, Montgomery accidentally reveals that he was planning on transferring to a new roommate and they are both captured by Blake before they can eat any pizza.
Blake takes Jack away and reveals that due to his unusual face, Blake plans to unlock everyone's confiscated phones with it so that they can all simultaneously be transferred to Gralk Hall. Lizzy, learning that Logan didn't have any pizza and simply wanted her to pay the party bus, turns back to rescue Montgomery and Jack, while Snackatron 3000 tries to find Montgomery so that he can rate him. Lizzy finds Montgomery and the two recruit Ashley's strange band to distract the RA, while they rescue Jack. Blake attempts to destroy their pizza, but Snackatron 3000 jumps out the window with it. Jack, Montgomery, and Lizzy enter the next phase where they become one person, Juan, and battle the RA members. Blake threatens to send Jack to Gralk Hall, but Jack short circuits all the phones, and Blake is "pushed" down an elevator shaft by Lysander.
The group enter the last phase of the drug where their worst nightmares manifest and chase with with chainsaws, with the intent to shove them up their butts. The three escape by jumping out the window and crawl towards Snackatron 3000 for their pizza. Blake impedes them and they shove the rest of the M.I.N.T.S. down his throat causing him to see that their reality is really just a "low budget indie film". The trio finally eat the pizza, removing their nightmares and reverting to normal. Montgomery turns down Ashley, while Lizzy kicks Logan in the groin and leaves his group. It is implied that Montgomery and Lizzy hook up instead, as they now back up Jack from his tormentors. The three return to their dorm room to resume playing table top games.
